About Barbara

Dr. Barbara Spandern looks back at sound, versatile education and many years of practical veterinary experience. After her internship at the Humane Society in San Mateo, California she moved to Berlin, Germany to study veterinary medicine. Following her graduation she started her own rural mixed veterinary clinic in Northern Germany. Parallel to her professional engagement she completed her PhD thesis on the effect of stress on various hormone parameters and the fertility of breeding bulls ( -> publication abstract). A topic that should remain in the very core of her activities.

Today Dr. Spandern services farmers, breeders and organisations across Europe sharing her insight in animal health, breeding strategy and farm management. She is recognised as a top rated speaker and lecturer at various workshops and conferences in matters of animal welfare and gentle stockmanship.

Michael Spandern, agronomist and brewer, is a senior agribusiness professional with 20+ years of international experience. He has spent his career as business development consultant or in leading positions with feed and grain companies, biotech firms, alcohol producers, farming integrations, NGOs and suppliers to the industry around the world. As a top rated speaker and lecturer at various conferences and seminars he passionately shares his insights about the creation of sustainable value chains from the field to the table.

Michael graduated in agriculture at the University of Kiel, Germany and later he earned a postgraduate degree in brewing and distilling at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. Over the years he found that food and energy production are all interdependently connected. Michael left the feed industry to promote a 100% plant based food system.
